The state of New Jersey is located in the northeastern portion of the country. It has a coastline in the Atlantic Ocean on one side and which affects the weather in New Jersey. The type of weather that you get in the state depends on where in the state you are. The northwest experiences humid continental climate while the south central and northeast of the state will experience humid mesothermal.

The temperatures can be cooler in the higher elevations and the state receives an average of 2,600 hours of sunshine every year. The temperatures are hot and humid in the summer while the winters are cold but not extreme unless you are in higher elevations. Because of its location on the Atlantic coastline, New Jersey can see hurricanes, tropical storms, northeasters and other weather patterns.
